Shark Cage & Cape of Good Hope Tour incl. Transfer
- About 10 hours
Your full day tour starts with a pick up from you hotel in Cape Town or surrounds. The exact time will be confirmed with you the day before the trip. Travel to Simon’s Town is just 45 minutes from Cape Town where you will meet the crew at the Apex Shark Expeditions shop. Guests are welcomed aboard White Pointer II. A full safety and weather briefing is given before departure.
Our shark tours to either Seal Island or Cape Point both offer very different opportunities. Possible shark species can include Seven gill cow sharks, Mako Sharks, Blue sharks and Great white sharks. The location for the day will be determined by the best shark activity and sea conditions and will be confirmed with you the day before your trip. Whales, dolphins and many species of sea birds are often encountered on this adventurous expedition. As we adopt an eco style of operating our trips, going to sea with Apex is like going on a safari game drive and we will try to take in as much marine wildlife as possible on our trips
Once we arrive at Seal Island or Cape Point, based on what the weather is doing, we will decide on the best spot to weigh anchor and begin attracting sharks to the vessel. The cage is then deployed where it floats next to our vessel. Once a shark approaches our boat, bait is kept in the water to keep the shark around long enough for identification, viewing and cage diving purposes. If the weather conditions are favourable, guests will be readied for cage diving. Safety precautions and operational procedures are then explained to any guest wishing to enter the cage. It is important to know that the sharks come very close to the boat so it is not necessary to dive in order to see them. Those not wishing to dive will have excellent views of the sharks regardless. The shark trip duration is +- 3- 4 hours depending on the weather conditions and shark activity and you are are invited for complimentary tea / coffee and biscuits at the Apex shop upon your return. There are many good restaurants in Simon’s Town to have lunch. Salty Sea Dog offers good old fish n’ chips and the Lighthouse Cafe serves up delicious one of a kind dishes which you will want to come back for. Lunch is for your own account.
Five minutes outside of Simon’s Town, you will reach the Boulders Beach Penguin Colony – Home to the African Penguin. Experience these delightful birds up close in their own habitat. The sandy, compact cove with large boulders, offers a home to waddling penguins & their nesting areas. It is one of the few sites where this vulnerable bird can be observed at close range, wandering freely in a protected natural environment. From just two breeding pairs in 1982, the penguin colony has grown to about 3,000 birds in recent years. This is partly due to the reduction in commercial pelagic trawling in False Bay which has increased the supply of small bait fish, which form part of the penguins’ diet. Bordered mainly by indigenous bush above the high-water mark on the one side, and the clear water of False Bay on the other, the area comprises a number of small sheltered bays, partially enclosed by granite boulders that are 540 million years old. It is not necessary to enter the facility as the penguins are easily viewed from the boardwalk. This stop is usually +- 15 minutes due to time constraints.
Thereafter wind your way through the most beautiful scenery to Cape Point.
Cape Point, a World Heritage Site, and protected Nature Reserve is the only place on the planet where one finds an area of vast natural beauty, world renown for it natural vegetation and rich bio-diversity. Part of the Cape of Good Hope is not the southern tip of Africa, despite lying at the south-west corner of the Cape Peninsula, just a little south of Cape Point on the south-east corner. This part of the park is home to an array of fynbos, over 250 species of birds, buck, baboons and Cape mountain zebra. There are numerous picnic spots, paths on which one can set off on foot or mountain bike, and tidal pools on almost isolated beaches. The area is of rich cultural and historical significance and includes monuments to early explorers such as Vasco da Gama and Bartolomeu Dias. The Two Oceans Restaurant is a good option for lunch. Drop off at your hotel is +- 5pm.

A once in a lifetime experiance that blew us away. The team are amazing and words can't explain this incredible time with these powerful animals.
Renee and Bernie are amazing!! I had only two days in Cape Town and they set me up with a shark dive for the following day with less than 24 hours notice. They were so kind and accommodating with my schedule, and when I couldn’t get a dive in Cape Town with Apex, they quickly booked me a dive in Gaansbai with a sister company. They were on hand at all times in case I had any questions and were super easy to communicate with. Love Apex and cannot recommend them enough to set you up with a once in a lifetime experience!
We had a fantastic experience with Apex. They brought us out for ~3 hours for cage diving with sharks and had a perfect time. They're clearly professionals at this and took care of everything; we just showed up and had a great time. We saw 3 different sharks and had plenty of cage time. Would highly recommend to everyone!
I have not had the pleasure of going shark diving with these guys, but it is on my bucket list. However, I have purchased two photos from Chris and Monique and they are both amazing. I get so many compliments about the photos, and I love how they are scientists as well as tour operators. I am planning to go back to Cape Town for a holiday and shark diving with these guys is number one on the list.
Apex Predators staff and crew were beyond amazing. my shark cage dive experience was amazing. The crew were very informative and very hands on from helping us get into our wetsuits to taking videos and pictures. I got to see how they chum the waters as soon as we anchored and not even 5 minutes we had sharks all around our boat. Great white sharks have been a rare sighting, but we got to see 1 at least that circled our boat out of curiousity. we were surrounded by copperhead sharks around 8-9 in different sizes at any given time. Going down in shark infested waters was the 2nd most amazing thing I have done. The crew was very focused on peoples safety at all times and very friendly. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY FOR ITS CREW AND PROFESSIONALISM. THANK YOU ALL AGAIN FOR SUCH AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE.
